The home is one of the most important structures in our lives since it’s the primary place we obtain the 5 important basic needs which are food, shelter, clothes, energy and water.
The dream to fully automate the home has been in the public conscious for a long time, but it is yet to become a reality, in other words, the chore free home doesn’t exist without the help of house workers.
Since we achieved a chore free home through house workers, the first wave of home automation enthusiasts believed that, the best way to automate home chores such as cleaning dishes, cleaning clothes, cleaning the house etc. was through the creation of humanoids who will do all the house work.
But as time went on, people realized that creating humanoid robots to do all our house chores was harder than expected and the best way to automate the home was to simply create machines that do a specific task.
This era of specific machines to do specific tasks was much more successful in terms of automating the home, producing famous innovations such as washing machines, dish washers, microwaves, gas cookers, fridges, ovens etc. which allowed for the first time, house chores to be performed by machines, with a little help by people, allowing houses to be easily manageable.
This is the era we are still in, with people now having numerous appliances such as vacuum cleaners, washing machines, driers, dish washers etc.
But as many people have already realized, this era will not lead us to a chore free home, since the machines don’t automate any chore completely. For example:
The washing machine helps wash clothes but you still have to load the clothes, put the detergents, set up the machine and remove the clothes once the machine is done with them.
The microwave heats up food but you still have to load the food, set up the machine and unload the food.
So all home automation machines still have to be operated and maintained by a human being and hence people still have chores to do, to help machines perform their tasks.
The following are reasons why we couldn’t make the leap of making these technologies do chores without any human help:
Lack of space in our homes
The first reason we couldn’t make the leap of making these technologies do chores without human help is the lack of space in our homes.
Currently people creating home automations are restricted to create compact machines that can fit into the already crowded homes.
Many homes already have many appliances such as washing machines, driers, dish washers, cookers, fridges, ovens etc. so any additional appliance that helps in home automation needs to be small and compact to fit into the kitchens, living rooms or stores of our homes.
This restricts creators of home machines to put size before quality or capacity making it hard to make fully automated machines.
Cost of fully automated machines
The second reason we couldn’t make the leap of making these technologies do chores without human help is the cost of fully automated machines.
Currently there are already prototype machines that can cook food automatically, fully wash and store dishes automatically etc.
These have been used to showcase the future of homes and have been met with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement.
Unfortunately most of these machines, have failed to become mainstream due to their high prices, that most people are either unable to afford or have deemed too expensive for the problem they are solving.
There are also prototype machines for folding clothes, handling washing clothes etc. but they have all met the same fate as the cooking machines i.e. they have been deemed too expensive for the average consumer.
After discussing why these technologies couldn’t lead to the full automation of the home, let us now discuss a new architecture that solves the problems caused by the current architecture:
MAMA apartments
MAMA architecture is a new style of architecture whose fundamental principle is that houses should be connected to a food hub and clothes hub that handle all chores involved with food and clothes respectively.
Houses built using MAMA architecture are called MAMA apartments.
When someone who lives in MAMA apartments needs food or clothes, they order them from the food or clothes hub and they are brought to them by a pod that passes through small tunnels.
When they finish eating or wearing the food or clothes respectively, they return the dirty dishes or clothes using the pod that passes through a small tunnel to the food or clothes hub where they are cleaned and stored.
MAMA apartments don’t need a kitchen, closet, appliances, store etc. and hence can be designed to be simple enough to be fully cleaned by autonomous robots.
After discussing how MAMA apartments function, let us now discuss how it handles the 2 biggest problems stopping us from fully automating our homes:
Cost of fully automated machines
We discussed that fully automated machines exist but were too expensive for the average home.
MAMA apartments will allow these machines to be adopted since they offer services to many people and need automations to reduce their costs hence the price of the machines won’t matter over the long run for the hubs.
So through MAMA apartments, these machines will be able to be used efficiently allowing their price to be justified and finally allowing the automation of house chores.
Lack of space in our homes
We discussed that most homes lack the space to accommodate fully automated machines. MAMA apartments override the size problem since the automations of the food and clothes hub can be of any size as long as they help with fully automating the hubs.
The size constraint doesn’t come into question since the hubs are independent of any home allowing them to be as big as needed by the automations.
So the full automation of cooking, washing dishes, washing clothes, storing clothes etc. will be much easier to be implemented in the hubs than in current houses due to the hubs allowing automations of different sizes.
MAMA architecture
MAMA apartments do not complete MAMA architecture as they have two fundamental problems: The problem of ownership and the problem of our current infrastructure. Let us now discuss the two problems and the solution:
The problem of ownership
MAMA apartments are fully dependent on the food and clothes hub which are collectively used by the residents of the apartments.
Hence for the concept of ownership of a MAMA apartment to make sense, all residents must have the ability to influence and decide how the hubs are run and how the profits of the hubs are used.
Because of this reason, MAMA apartments are governed by a decentralized government system that uses direct democracy called the meritocratic government.
The meritocratic government consists of institutions that residents can join through passing merit tests.
Once they are members of an institution they can vote on or propose bills to change regulations or policies of the government.
Hence residents of meritocratic apartments could pass merit tests for the food institution and propose a bill for the profits of the food hub to be used to purchase certain automation etc.
The problem of our current infrastructure
The sheer nature and complexity of MAMA apartments makes it extremely expensive and complex to build them by upgrading existing apartments or houses.
This means that, in most cases, MAMA apartments will be built from scratch and people will have to switch from living in their current homes to living in MAMA apartments.
This leads to the problem of what will people do with their current houses or apartments. Renting is out of the question, as doing so, will defeat the goal of making people live in MAMA apartments.
MAMA apartments will also lead to the close down of many businesses that rely on the current architecture where residents have to do house chores such as businesses that sold groceries, small shops, businesses that sold utensils, clothes shops etc.
So the fundamental idea of MAMA apartments will lead to many of our current infrastructure dropping in value and having no use.
Because of this reason, MAMA apartments will also consist of a community hub that allows people to embody different stereotypes through providing them with infrastructure such as venues, accessories, characters and life stories.
The meritocratic government will obtain venues and accessories from residents who owned houses, shops etc. that have been made useless or dropped in value because of MAMA apartments.
The meritocratic government will hire people who have lost their jobs because of MAMA apartments as characters who act in other people’s lives.
Prerequisite technology
So MAMA architecture consists of building MAMA apartments that are governed by a meritocratic government which also operates a community hub.
This means that in order to make MAMA architecture a reality, we will need to build all the prerequisite technologies and systems required for the creation of the MAMA apartments, meritocratic government and Community hub.
The MAMA project is a project that seeks to build the prerequisite technologies and systems needed for MAMA architecture and make them open source so architects, people and communities all around the world can use the technologies and systems to build MAMA apartments, meritocratic government and community hubs.
The MAMA project aims to achieve this, by crowd sourcing the funds needed to build the technologies and systems through the help of content creators, who create content about their struggles with house chores thus helping raise awareness about the project and increase patrons.
People can become content creators through creating simple short videos about their struggles with house chores and promoting the project.
These videos are then posted by the content creators in their respective social media accounts giving exposure to the MAMA project.
The short videos consist of content creators saying that they wish they lived in MAMA apartments so they wouldn’t have to do a certain chore while recording the chore they will have to do. So for example:
The video might consist of a content creator saying they wish they lived in MAMA apartments so that they wouldn’t have to wash a dirty shirt while recording the shirt.
The video might consist of a content creator saying they wish they lived in MAMA apartments so that they wouldn’t have to clean a window while recording the window.
The video will then end with them stating that MAMA project is a project that seeks to eliminate house chores and informing those who want to learn more about the project to visit the website: theinternetoftransportation.com.
The following is the overall template of the video:

The goal is for all of us to become content creators and make one video everyday and post it in TikTok and other social Medias such as YouTube shorts, Instagram reels and face book stories so that we can increase the exposure of the MAMA project.
